Tin Oxide - white
Tin oxide-white, SnO2, is most often used to opacify glaze when used in percentages that range from 5% to 10%.
- Used to change transparent glaze from being clear into rich white opaque tin is used in combination with other stains and pigments to provide reliable solid opaque colored glazes. The opaquing properties are more reliable at lower temperatures than hotter ^10 temperatures. At higher firing temperatures, some of tin's ability to opacify is lost. Tin is reactive to chromium oxide and can produce pinkish flashes, also known as (chrome-tin pink).
