Glaze opacifier
Bone Ash-crude, is a common name given to dibasic dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (CaHPO4 -H2O ). This material is derived from a ground ash.
- The average chemical composition is 25%-Calcium with a phosphorus content of 18.5% at minimum.
- Florine is an inherent impurity in natural bone ash, but it is contained to a maximum concentration of .05%. This product is grainy in nature with a mean particle size of 100 mesh & finer. Up to 22% can be of 80 mesh particles.
- Synthetic bone ashes are processed to a much finer particle size. However synthetically derived bone ashes used in the industry have a primary chemical composition of tricalcium phosphate which often render higher melting temperatures and do not always work in low temperature glaze applications.
